Gold Hunters

With the rain lessened in the morning, and some sun breaking through the clouds, the Regulators set out to locate the missing gold with G’roynn reviewing the original burial location. G’roynn finding a large black oily feather that Bru-shlee was quick to point out did not appear to belong to any avian creature native to these jungles that he was aware of.

With this, the party set out to search the remaining mining grounds that they hadn’t yet been to, starting in the southwest, where they discovered a nest of twisting vines and branches around twenty-feet up. Jegan and Bru-shlee stealthy made their way down the path of animal carcass and refuse, slowly climbing up to the nest to find a winged bat-like humanoid creature sleeping on its back with several gold bars.

Jegan moved into a ready position to attack the beast if it were to awaken, while Bru-shlee traversed the branches underneath like a primate, popping back up on the other side of the nest. Slowly and quietly extracting the gold, dropping down to the ground, snapped a branch on the final gold bar, awakening the beast. This was Jegan’s time to act, running his rapier through the beast’s chest, then following up cutting his neck severing his vocal cords. Before it could act, Bru-shlee broke his jaw and snapped his neck ending its horrid existence.

After stowing the gold in the sorting station due to its overall bulkiness, the Regulators set forth to the northwestern end of the gold mine where they quickly located a larger nest than before. Anticipating a similar scenario, they enacted their plans, quietly moving into position. Roughly fifteen feet up their climb though, a hideous Vrock demon loomed over the edge of the nest with a beaky grin peering down at fresh prey!

The Vrock swooped down trying to grab Bru-shlee off the tree, though raking into him with its talons, failed to grab him before flying up fifteen feet above them. Kapprenakiz dropped his ax, pulling his loaded crossbow into aim, clipping its wing, but not causing it to fall. Bru-shlee quickly moved up the tree, leaping out to the Vrock, attacking its wing and grabbing hold which forced the Vrock to lose flight and fall to the earth. Bru-shlee was able to maneuver onto its back breaking the fall and took no damage. It was here where the Vrock knew it fucked up…as the party made quick work of the fallen demon, and recovered the remaining gold.

Sorting the Spoils

As the Regulators took time to rest in the Cinderclaw Mine’s Sorting Station, they cleaned up a bit, and sorted out who was carrying the gold bullion, as the weight of each rough cast bar was considerable, forcing them to make some difficult choices on what they may need to leave behind. All things considered, the party were able to figure out this riddle, and just in time…

Cinderclaw Drums

While gathered in the Sorting Station, drums bellow in the distance, quieting down for a moment, the booming grew slowly louder accompanied by the sound of tree limbs cracking and crashing to the ground, another few moments passed with quiet anticipation as a low rumble shook the ground. Something or many things moved in the direction of the abandoned mining camp…uncertain, maybe nervous, but difficult to know how much time the party had to either stand their ground, they keenly chose to slip away unnoticed with the rough cast gold bars securely stowed.

Upon the northwestern ridgeline just over three-hundred meters away, the party watched the Cinderclaws move in force, retaking the camp. Kane cast Clairvoyance to view in greater detail making their way through the camp, with one particular blue dragon humanoid that appeared to be in command, displaying magic torrents during their tirade within the camp. Looking down the ridgeline, several Cinderclaw Hunting Parties moved closer to their position, though unspotted, the party slipped away and headed deeper into the jungle.
