Southern Swamp (cont.)
After dealing with the wildlife, the party moved slowly past the other huge Dragon Pillars, they were ambushed by a massive Deinosuchus and several Boggard Swampseers. While the Boggards were more of a nuisance, the real threat was dealing with the prehistoric crocodile that unsuccessfully tried multiple times to pull Bru-shlee or Adélina Cornaro under, which very well could have been a deathblow to any party member. Ultimately the party prevailed, with less health and resources, but now standing roughly fifty-feet away from the fortress gates.
Fortress of Sorrow Gates
The Regulators stepped out of the pouring rainstorm, under the dragon-like maw covering the front gates of the Fortress of Sorrow. Scanning the gates, they realized there was no mechanical lock to these twenty-food doors that would not open freely. Using his magical prowess, Kane determined there was a magical seal to the doors, and eventually the party realized they could use the Lesser Religious Symbol of Dahak to temporarily disable to seal, allowing them access into the fortress.
Infiltrating the Fortress of Sorrow
Once inside, the party started to creep within the main hall, empty other than a large draconic statue. Noticing two sets of double doors to the northeast and northwest, splitting off from the entrance in a “V” pattern, they slowly made their way towards the northeast as the statue came to life, bellowing in Draconic: “Halt Trespassers! None may enter the master’s sanctum!“.
Looking down towards Bru-shlee, he commanded him to get behind him for protection, being tricked by Bru-shlee’s “Illusory Disguise” as a Cinderclaw. Several mighty blows upon the party took several of them down by half health quickly. Absorbing damage, this fight turned dire until Jegan carved up the golem with his adamantine blade, as his Rapier made easy work of this magically protected creation.
Infiltrating the Fortress of Sorrow, Dorms
Healing from their wounds, they checked both sets of doors to the northeast, the first set not granting them access as the front gates did prior, though the second set did allow them further access into the fortress, with the next elongated room being some type of dormitory for the Cinderclaws. Hearing in the darkness: “Ahhh, uninvited welps, GET THEM!“.
Cinderclaws within this chamber quickly alerted, a brawl ensued between the party and several Boggard Swampseers and Charau-ka Butchers. Though they did minor damage to the party, they were little match, killed quickly. Outside more lesser religious symbols of Dahak, there were a few more magical tridents that the party collected before moving north to a new set of double doors.
Infiltrating the Fortress of Sorrow, Fang & Claw
No magical seal, and built more like swinging doors, they slowly and quietly walked north, they came upon the kitchen, but not one any of the Regulators would eat from. The smell was horrendous, almost nauseating, but before they pressed forth, a large flaming demonic dog-like beast dropped down from an upper ledge onto the table, growling at the part, snapping its flaming sharp teeth and claws into the party. While several members took damage, with Bru-shlee dodging the flaming breath, it did not take long for the party to handle this hideous beast, extinguishing its flame for good.

Infiltrating the Fortress of Sorrow, Flesh & Iron
After mending their wounds the Regulators continued making their way around the Fortress of Sorrow, coming across several disheveled workers toil away at their craft in this sweltering room, which noticed the party immediately saying “Look, adventurers!”, “What are you blabbering about this time?…”, “Maybe they’ve come to rescue us!?”, and finally a shout to warn their potential heroes “LOOK OUT!!“. With all of this happening so quickly, a hissing voice that rings out from the darkness: “Look what’s come to play with us brother!“.
The Regulators found themselves in a fight with two Spawn of Dahak, these draconic mutated baboons with wings, claws, and sharp teeth. While Jegan shredded the first, Bru-shlee was near death as he took savage strikes from his brother spawn, though it did not take long for the advantage to swing back to the heroes as they dropped the tormented brothers, with two well placed arrows by G’roynn Ironshaft doing massive damage to the second right after it tore into Bru-shlee. Critical strikes and healing potions were clutch in thwarting this savage encounter.
The Regulators took time to break the workers from their shackles, noticing the mark of the Scarlet Triad on their bonds, each grateful for the party appearance and killing their tormentors. While they did not get into details of who, why, or how, they did provide any assistance through information that they could, noting there were more captives around, and that the dragonoid Belmazog was very powerful and ruthless. After mending wounds of the party and captives, the party instructed them to remain hidden here while they pushed into the Inner Sanctum to stop Belmazog and thwart his plans.
Fortress of Sorrow Inner Sanctum, Stone Doors of Dahak
With the Inner Sanctum Key in hand, curved runed horn, Jegan opened the doors into the Inner Sanctum Entrance. A pair of immense, fossilized vertebrae run along the central ceiling of this room. The walls are carved with images of huge, spiny dragons ravaging jungle landscapes and burning entire cities to the ground. Sleeping mats have been placed along the walls to the south. In the center of the room on the northern wall looms a set of large stone ornately carved doors, each depicting a serpentine dragon around a half sun that makes up its handle.
Jegan, with key in hand, proceeded to check the large ornate stone carved doors to the north, something was wrong hearing a voice “Only the chosen may pass! Destroy Defilers!”, as a large phantasmal dragon head appeared, snapping its jaws down upon Jegan tearing into him, and putting the party on edge as they readied battle with this protective force. Kane retrieved the Silver Religious Symbol of Dahak, stepping up to the door, and placing it upon the runes carved into the stone doors, as the voice rang out “Only the chosen may pass!” followed by “Enter Cinderclaws, ALL HAIL DAHAK!”. The threat ended, the Regulators were now free to push further into the Inner Sanctum.

Fortress of Sorrow Inner Sanctum, Gathering Room
Entering this chamber, the Regulators notice the fossilized ribs of a massive creature support the ceiling above, while the walls are carved with reliefs of an immense dragon burning cities and eating other dragons. Dragon Skulls hang from chains attached to the ceiling of this chamber. Occultic incantation chanting can be heard coming from the western end of this chamber, turning to “DEFILER! DEFILER!!” and “INTRUDER! INTRUDER!!” shouted in Mwangi, followed by “Kill the defilers, they must not disturb the master’s work!” in Draconic. The PCs quickly engaged these foes, with each Eloko magically increasing in size, they stood large over the party, they slashed away with their bone blades while screaming crazed curses. The Charau-ka Dragon Priest spewing fire all around to no effect as all Regulators were able to dodge its fiery attack! The Dragon Priest then took the brunt of several critical strikes from Adélina Cornaro and Jegan, dropping it quickly.
With their attention turned to the Eloko, they had to fight through being Charmed by the creatures, along with their large forms, the party whittled their health down until G’roynn Ironshaft and Jegan landed deadly strikes.
Fortress of Sorrow Inner Sanctum, Beast Pens
Healing up through magic and potions, Kane opened the doors as they pressed forth into the largest chamber so far, with this room more elegant than any of the others within the fortress, covered with fine inscriptions, geometric patterns, and exquisite calligraphy. Guttural beast sounds can be heard on either side of this room…steady their nerves, something lurked in the dark. From both sides came Cinderclaw Chimera featuring a Lions and Goats head as well, each chamber deadlier than previous.
The Cinderclaw Chimera tore into Jegan, and even more into Adélina Cornaro, but this gave Bru-shlee the opportunity to move into position and land several hard strikes, followed by a sweep causing one of the Chimeras to fall prone. With this, Jegan made several deadly strikes upon it while down doing significant damage, while Kane and G’roynn Ironshaft worked on the other Chimera. The injured Cinderclaw Chimera got back up, but not before taking even more strikes by Bru-shlee and Adélina Cornaro in the process, lashing out at her, she took several strikes from the Lion’s jaws and Goat’s horns. Bru-shlee quickly took it down again, then proceeded to strike the Chimera with his fists of fury, bloodying it to near death.
Once that Cinderclaw Chimera was defeated, the Regulators turned their full collective force against the final beast taking it down, but not without suffering a fair amount of damage themselves. Spending the next thirty minutes healing and preparing for what lays beyond the large bone door to the north, they fight their fear with the resolve of true heroes, ready to end this threat once and for all!
